John R. Miller
Kinship, Ethics, Indigenous Philosophy
About Me
Tānisi! My name is John Miller. I am a citizen of the Métis Nation British Columbia and a PhD student in the department of philosophy at the University of Toronto. My current work is on the Métis/Cree concept of wahkootowin, or kinship. My earlier work focused on Kant and his immediate successors, and I still have an interest in the work of Fichte and Schopenhauer.
I completed my BA and MA at the University of Victoria, and I currently live in Victoria, B.C., on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Esquimalt and Songhees) people. I live here with my wife, Brooke, and my wonderful hedgehog, Petunia. Both of my companions are the center of my philosophical and personal lives. Both my work and my private life would be immeasurably worse off without them.
